1. What do you think inspired your author to write this book?
Most likely his fascination in murder mysteries and admiration for the detective genre. There are occasional mentions of Arthur Conan Doyle, an author most notable for his detective novel featuring Sherlock Holmes. It is possible that he's inspired by him and decided to go his own version of a "modernized Sherlock Holmes."

2. Do you think he or she had to do any research? If so, what about? Where does the author seem especially knowledgeable about his or her topic?
If you're really into something, wouldn't you want to learn more about it? And considering that you're writing a story that requires some knowledge about the work field, it's wise to do a little study about the human body after death for murder mystery cases like within the manga. You need to be a bit informed about the human anatomy to pull something like this.
While methods of how the murder is pulled off is more like improvisation than anything. And little creativity and physics would make it seem at least a little bit convincing no matter out perplex and preposterous it seems.

3. What is one question you still have about the book’s time period or context?  How do you think you could go about finding the answer to this question?
Honestly, doing a little research on the inter-webs, isn't all that hard nowadays. Though, considering how the author formatted the chapters, it makes you question how much crime Japanese society face on a day to day basis. It's another murder case back to back based on the book itself and very few times does the author mention anything about the main plot.
At this point, they all seem like a pile of fillers being compressed into the volume rather than an actual story, because each one to two chapters contains different murder plots. We don't know a lot about the main plot as an audience. Then again, maybe it's just the author's wild imagination running loose.
